Born in Bordeaux, France to a family of restaurateurs, I emigrated to the US while in my teens. I started cooking in the family’s crèperie in Nyack, NY in the late 70′s while attending classes at the New York Restaurant School. In 1990 I changed careers and became an RN but after a 10 years break I returned to cooking, this time on a research and expedition vessel out of Key West, Florida. For the last 10 years I have incorporated my interest in organic, sustainable, local and non-GMO foods into everything I do.
My husband Mark and I moved to Powell River from Bellingham in 2009 so he could fulfill his long-time dream of living in BC. Since then we have started the process of becoming landed immigrants and eventually Canadian citizens. For now I’m happily pursuing my interest in small animal husbandry by raising New Zealand rabbits and Muscovy ducks, occasionally doing a catering event and working part-time for a local doctor. This year I obtained one of the new class-D meat licences and as Serendipity Rabbitry am now selling rabbit meat as well as offering workshops on how to raise, process and cook them.
I’ve fallen in love with Powell River, BC and Canada and feel very lucky to have found a place where so many people share my values and principles. Besides being a founding member of Skookum and serving on the board I am a member of the Powell River Farmer’s institute and on several committees there including the Urban Livestock, SPCA relations and Farmer’s Market Working group.
